On December 21, 2017, Weskan took a trip to the movies! Students from 1st grade to 12th grade went to the Sharon Springs movie theater and watched Cars 3. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast cars, the legendary Lightning McQueen finds himself pushed out of the sport that he loves.

Hoping to get back in the game, he turns to Cruz Ramirez, an eager young technician who has her own plans for winning. With inspiration from the Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns, No. 95 prepares to compete on Piston Cup Racing's biggest stage.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, everyone enjoyed snacks and popcorn during the movie. Weskan devised a bit of a buddy system in conjunction with the movie. All the High Schoolers were paired with an Elementary student. The 6th graders got to be by themselves and sit wherever they wanted during the movie, but in exchange for this freedom they had to help clean up after the movie was over.

Brennan Aldridge, a 6th grader, said, “My favorite part was by far when Lightning gets a little inspiration from his best bud, 'Mator, about how to get better at racing. The popcorn was really good too, because who doesn’t enjoy some snacks and a movie?”

The movie was really exciting and many of the students, young and old, enjoyed it. There was a lot of laughter throughout the theater that afternoon and a few jump-scares that were a bit unexpected. The trip to the movies was fun and filled with lots of talking and jokes being told all around. The trip back was a little quieter due to most students going home with their parents while others went back to school only to be let out of school early.

Nicholas Goodwin, a 4th grader, loved the movie and said, “It was really fun spending time with my ‘big brother’, Zach Schemm. I love the Cars movies and this one made me love them even more.” Overall, The day was well spent and everyone enjoyed it. Friends were made and so were great memories.
