The glorious event every high school student looks forward to. Homecoming week started on September 23rd, 2019, for the Weskan Coyotes. Every year, the High school Cheerleaders choose themes for the students to dress up for each day of the week. This year the themes were: Circus Day (Monday), Fortnite/Meme Day (Tuesday), Autograph Day (Wednesday), and finally, Spirit Day (Thursday)!

That same week there were three home games! There were all sorts of fun and exciting things happening during the week of Homecoming, that it was hard to keep track of it all. On September 24th, 2019, the Weskan Lady Coyotes went head to head in an intense Volleyball game with the Bethune Bobcats and St. Francis Indians. The Weskan Coyote Junior High teams also had games against Cheylin on the 26th.

After the Junior High games on the 26th, the Weskan Pep Rally began at 7:00 pm. The Cheerleaders had plenty of cheers and dance routines planned and prepared for the night. There was even a Hoop Toss game in which the Volleyball girls and the Football guys were pitted up against each other. One boy and one girl from each team had to stand in the middle, and whichever team got all their hoops around the teammate in the middle, won. The High school boys came out on top, even though it was a close match.

There was also a Seniors vs. parents game that brought everyone into a fit of uproarious laughter and huge smiles all around. The game was like a 3 legged race, except you were all tied to each other in one long line, which made it ten times harder!

Once everyone had settled down from the games, and after a few more cheers had happened, the most important part of the night came: the coronation! This year, the Homecoming King was Jace Mackley and the Homecoming Queen was Echo Kirkham.

The most anticipated event of the weekend was the football game on Friday, the 27th of September, between the Weskan Coyotes and the Natoma Tigers. Most people thought the game was going to be quick and easy, but the Natoma Tigers bared their claws and showed just how badly they wanted to win.

It was a long, drawn-out game, the points were hard-fought, and each team tried their best to keep each other at bay. Sadly, the game came to an end with a Weskan defeat. The sullen mood didn’t last long though, because right after the game was the Homecoming Dance! The theme for Homecoming was “The Circus”, which suited Weskan perfectly, since it was like watching a bunch of eager and giddy circus performers out on the dance floor.

Homecoming is always a well-loved American tradition and will be for years to come. Each school may do things a bit differently, with no two Homecomings being the same, but I can say that Weskan surely does know how to get the school spirit pumping.
